We’ve all been there—trying to request time off and suddenly finding ourselves spilling every detail. While we might feel compelled to explain why we need a day away, the truth is, you don’t owe anyone an explanation. A simple, professional “I have an appointment” is all you need. No need to overshare the specifics. After all, your time away should be yours to enjoy—no questions asked.
You will hear me mention throughout my "Workplace Tips" on how to play the game. That is becuz I was molded n refined by elders in the office. I have always been observant with how professionals moved and paid attention to what they say but more on what they don't say. Now I know common sense ain't so common but it's no way-no matter how cool I am with my boss-am I gonna tell 'em "oh by the way, I'm leaving early to get my nails done" or "I know your working on this hot tasker to brief the General but looka here...if my dog doesn't get groomed today, Mitzy will have dreads by tomorrow".
We gotta bring professionalism back into the work space. I don't care who else doing what whether its the higher ups or not. Remember yo mama told you "I don't care what THEY doin" and "Worry bout yourself" CORRECT!! Separate yourself and rise above! The standard is the standard-PERIODT (pooh, lol-I couldn't resist).

Anything outside of a medical appointment or family emergency isn't important as it relates to work because you can technically catch the movie after you get off or the weekends. Do we need a mental day every now and then? HELL YEA!!! I do one every few months to readjust and even more so now that everyone's back to work. I am anxiously awaiting on the annoucement of the arrival for Cherry Blossoms because I WILL be down there during working hours but guess who won't know that? :D
Keep it brief: I have an appointment is the perfect way to convey your absence from the office by default. It's not "fair" to the team you work with who are overwhelmed with objectives and even putting in overtime to complete tasks to see (or overhear) how your gathering your keys to skip out the office early to catch a sale at the department store. Now GIRL!!!
